Recommendation

"We couldn't be more proud of ReUp's progress to date. They're a trailblazer in the space, bringing to life an additive layer of university services that blends human touch with technology capabilities to support these students."

Dr. Gary K. Michelson, founder of the Michelson 20MM Foundation

Now is the time to reinvest in the future

ReUp Education holds considerable disruptive potential. An important factor in its success is that the market incumbents, their post secondary clients, are largely ignoring the very students ReUp strives to serve.  As an academic advisor, working in a competitive program at a top 40 university I can attest that stopped-out students want to go back to school and they need assistanceReUp has taken advantage of this market gap and seen continued growth, even in the face of leadership changes since Sarah Horn became CEO in 2018. ReUp has expanded its partnerships from four community colleges in 2015 to an integrated network of 43 public and state institutions while re-enrolling roughly 10,000 students to date. As of the spring of 2019, ReUp reports it had recouped $25 M in college tuition and fees for partner institutions and raised a total of $14.1M in funding over three rounds. Their latest fundraising round raised $6M and ReUp plans to use the funds to further build out its proprietary predictive technology.

The "completion crisis", in resonance with the massive changes inflicted on higher education by the pandemic,  is having a profound impact on the US education system, society at large, and, most importantly, on the tens of millions of students looking to improve their situation through advanced education. Universities need to do more to provide better educational offerings, pathways, and student support services for all students -especially those that have stopped-out. With the right mix of personal coaching, technology and investment —we can engage these learners with respect and encouragement, help them overcome internal and external barriers, and, ultimately, empower them to reach their full potential.  Investing in ReUp not only makes business sense it also makes social and economic sense as ReUp is making a significant contribution to the knowledge economy by removing barriers to learning.
